Well, no time like the present to become a stock photographer. The new online stock photography agencies allow amateur (albeit good amateurs) to sell their photographs to the public: web-designers, magazine writers and editors, illustrators and so forth. The concept is rather simple: you take the pictures, digitally master them, describe them by using specific keywords. That's where your job ends. Next the photo reviewers (editors) accept or reject your photos and they're added to the database. And then the photographs start earning you money. Every time a client buys your photo, you get a comission (from a low of 20% to a high of 80%). Prego! Once you hit a certain level of earnings (usually $100) you get a check in the mail or a PayPal deposit.

Remeber, in this system you're not going to get a lot of money for each sale, but you're going to sell A LOT OF PHOTOGRAPHS. So the more great photos you have in your portfolio, the higher your earnings will be. Top stock photographers earn upwards of $5,000 per month! Can you match that? If your portfolio is big and of very high quality, the sky is the limit.

Earn 30 cents to $1.20 for each download of your photo or illustration. You also get 1 token (worth $1) that you can use for downloading other photographers' work. This is the newest site with rapidly growing collection, a great affiliate program, nice interface and quick reviews. Exclusive pictures get a 20% higher payout.

Earn 25 to 30 cents for each download of your photo or vector. With a portfolio of only 100 decent photos you can make $25-$100 per month. Many members have portfolios of thousands of images and sales of hundreds of dollars per month. This is a subscription site allowing members 25 downloads a day for a monthly fee, so it generates the largest volume of sales for.

Earn 50 cents for each download of your photo or illustration, more if someone orders a print of your photo or orders extended license options (large volume printing, software inclusions, resale licenses). Earns a higher comisson for the photographer (20-36%) but generates lower volume of sales. Travel shots sell quite well here. Middle of the group site with regular sales.

Earn from 37 cents to $1.50 for each download of your photo. Subscription downloads net at least 22 cents, but are often higher (last couple of months at 27 cents per sale). Extended license sales net a much higher fee (at least $10). Small site with rather low volume of sales.
